Unilever marks 10 years in Dominican Republic with Reforestation Drive
100 employees of Unilever Caribe, S.A commemorated the company’s 10th anniversary in the Dominican Republic in July by planting 1,000 trees in the El Derrumbao hillside in San José de Ocoa. The activity was guided and supported by local non-profit environmental awareness group, Pro Natura.
Each employee was challenged to plant 10 trees, symbolizing the business’ ten years in the Dominican Republic. Country Manager, Isis Baez, said that the act of planting the trees symbolized the business’ desire to give back to the Dominican Community. “Planting these trees today symbolize our commitment to the Dominican Republic and our appreciation to the Dominican people for welcoming Unilever into their lives,” she said to employees at the start of the activity.
Committed to Sustainability
This is the company’s third reforestation exercise, with the most recent one carried out in 2008 on the Loma Los Ganchos hillside. Baez explained that the reforestation drive is part of a wider effort by the company to operate in a more sustainable manner by reducing its environmental footprint and helping to slow down the effects of climate change.
